Team Park Lane Group Drivers:
I have not really done very much competitive racing in the past due to time constraints. I used to do a little bit of Motor Cross as a youngster then did a bit of Hill climbing in a un modified 1300cc Ford Fiesta. I have also done a fair bit of karting and a fair few track days. Although I have owned quads for years I have never actually raced them, only used them for hectic fun.
My main passions are shooting, hunting on horse- back & participating in any pastime’s that are hectic and adrenaline fuelled. Since being a dad I have lived a lot of my competitiveness for motorised / dangerous sports through my son & daughter so when I got into RZR racing it gave me the opportunity to race competitively alongside my son Oliver rather than spectating his racing or racing against him. Also it gave the opportunity to race against other guys of similar backgrounds, some with loads of relevant experience off road and some without, but all there for the same thing, a bloody good time!
Oliver is, I believe, the youngest driver on the grid at 16. He raced karts competitively from the age of 8 although he no longer competes but just races occasionally for fun. Like me he is big into shooting and riding. Oliver rides race horses competitively at point to point races which is fairly dangerous having had his fair share of dramatic falls over the jumps, although he has the benefit of youth on his side and seems to bounce, unlike me!
We are fairly big into water sports including mono skiing and wake boarding with me nowadays mainly getting the job of boat driver. This is fairly fraught with accidents as we water sport on a lake that is a little narrow using a 375hp Mastercraft ( slightly over-boated for the size of lake!) and it has been known on occasions for the person being towed to hit the bank at speed, including on one memorable occasion when Oliver, at the age of 10, was driving the boat, towing me round the lake and he managed to launch the boat and me right up the bank beside the lake, breaking me and the boat!
Martin convinced me to get into RZR racing on the basis that it would be non-competitive….he lied ! Everybody, us included, are in it to do the best we can and try just a bit more. My expectations of where we will be at the end of the championship, I would hope to achieve a respectable top ten finish. In fairness, if I let Oliver do more of the driving then we may do a little better but it’s my toy and I want to play as well!
